The purpose of this page is to challenge me to open my eyes and truly see the world which surrounds me. So often we trudge though our daily routine, too busy or preoccupied to notice the little miracles happening all around us. I hope to capture, through the lens of a camera, glimpses of my sometimes mundane but glorious little world. I will attempt to post one snapshot each day to share with you. Enjoy!

Since we had company for the week I splurged and purchased some special snack foods.  Fritos.  Love 'em, hate 'em.  This particular package seemed to be send out some love though....

At last!!!  After broken down trains, lost connections, missed flights, a couple mild meltdowns in various German train stations and then again in the Schiphol airport, a hotel room with a private bathroom (ahhh, luxury!) a 14 hour flight across the pond and (finally!) a 2 hour drive home..... that Girl, Jordan, is finally back home with the family.  So good to have all of them under one room for the night!

Just watching let along participating in water polo practice is tiring!  Just kidding.  Zach has to get up early for Cross Country running practice in the morning while Nate gets to sleep in because Water Polo is in the afternoon.  Sam is amused with the whole running around act I have to do to get them to their practices.

We decided to head over the bridges to Tacoma to visit some of the many awesome museums available.  The guys decided they needed to explore the Auto Museum while Grandma and I strolled through and around  the Glass Museum.  This is one of the larger colored glass structures we saw on display on the outdoor walkway.  The lopsided, silver conical building in the background is the hot, fire room where they have artist creating gorgeous glass pieces inside.

Sam and I made a special Anniversary dessert for Grandma and Grandpa Cutter.  They arrived here in the Pacific Northwest just in time to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a fresh bowl of homemade blackberry swirl ice cream.  Happy Anniversary!  We're happy to have you with us for the week.

Zach has to log a lot of driving hours before he can get his driver's license later this year.  This has given us the opportunity to become very familiar with our community.  For instance, today we drove to the very end of our little island and discovered this cute little park!  I think it will be a great place to take the grandparents next week.

After a long weekend away camping at the lake, all that was needed was a little water to perk up my very gangly red potato plant.

We've been getting some much needed rain falling on my garden the past couple of days.  It certainly makes everything look green and lush around here.  I was lucky enough to capture this intricate spiderweb with the many droplets of water clinging to the web strands.  Each droplet looks like a tiny crystal pearl ready to be plucked.

I moved this chair into my bedroom last week so I would have a quiet place to sit and read.  It's situated in the corner with the window on one side and the French doors on the other, giving it the perfectly light cross breeze.  The pups have decided it's a great spot for taking in a morning nap.

We have several of these trees all around the property.  I think they're some kind of willow tree because of the way the branches grow and hang down.  The leaves and stems grow all curly like these, making it look like flowing hair when the breeze picks up.

23 years ago in the little town of Brunswick, Maine on the rainiest day of that year, in front of friends and family who travelled from near and far to witness, I said, "I will," to my one true love.   I will follow you to the far off reaches of the world and back.  Happy, Happy Anniversary.

Our little island was hoppin' today with summer fun activities.  After a crazy dry thunderstorm keeping all of us up through most of the night, we slept in and got a later than expected start on the day.  That was okay because the auto show and book sale didn't start until 11:00am.  Here are my three guys posing in front of the vehicle I voted for as my favorite.  It is a refurbished Model A wood paneled delivery truck.   Also....I think Nate grew last night.

I was downtown again today.  This time it was with Zach for his annual eye appointment.  Yep... he's getting yet another new prescription for his most recent glasses frames.  While he was getting his eyes checked, puffed and dilated I decided to stroll around town.  This is an old boathouse just on the edge of the sound.

This is a bright, beautiful plant.  If you look closely though.... it's got lots of sharp spines.  I remember as a kid calling this the pricker plant.  It was almost as bad as the blackberry thorns.  Almost.  It just happens to be one of the obstacles I need to get around in order to get to the plumpest, juiciest blackberries.  I think I'm ahead on the berry count.... I've picked over 8 gallons so far.  Yum.

Sam has been bugging me for cheese crackers.  Since I refuse to purchase highly process snack foods we had to make them.  Just because we mixed together and baked these tasty morsels  right here at home does not mean they are healthy!  Especially when you sit and eat them.  All.   We did a batch of cheesy, rosemary garlic this time and they are (were) mouth watering good!  I think I might blog the process in the Daily Bread!  Keep your eyes peeled....

Here's my first carrot of the season.  I had to pull him prematurely due to the fact his was an accidental planting in the walkway and the greens had finally been stomped off his top.  Regardless, he's the first and was SO sweet!  Dave and I took turns chomping him down to nothing.... a total of four bites!  The best is yet to come.

This morning Zach and I had the privilege of working the first water station for the Tacoma City Half Marathon.  There were over a thousand runners and walkers registered for this race.  The racers couldn't have asked for better weather, cool temps, overcast skies and a little fog.  Since we were the first stop, our station was cleaned up and cleared away by 8:30AM.

Pie.  Blackberry pie.  Homemade blackberry pie.  With berries picked from the front slope this morning.  A tender, crispy crust made from scratch.  Whipped cream whipped by hand.  Oh, how I love blackberry season.
