The purpose of this page is to challenge me to open my eyes and truly see the world which surrounds me. So often we trudge though our daily routine, too busy or preoccupied to notice the little miracles happening all around us. I hope to capture, through the lens of a camera, glimpses of my sometimes mundane but glorious little world. I will attempt to post one snapshot each day to share with you. Enjoy!

I'm off to run the Rouge River in southern Oregon.  I'll be back in 4 days!

There's a brush fire on the back side of Kalaheo High School.  It butts up to BLM land and then on to H3 highway, so there are few to no houses in harms way, but it's awfully early in the season for a big brush fire like this.  The news is saying H3 highway is closed so the firefighters can try to control and push back the blaze from that standpoint.  Several places are being evacuated due to heavy smoke.  What we need is rain and for the winds to settle down.

Guard dogs?  No, not really.  They are just trying to avoid the extra boys at our house.  Last night we hosted a farewell bash for several of the young guys who are leaving the island this summer.  A dozen boys hanging out at the house eating pizza, chips and jell-o, drinking too much soda, playing video and computer games, watching movies, running around outside, laughing and having fun.  Until 3 a.m. when we finally had to throw the wet towel on them and tell them to hit the rack.  Anyway, the puppies like kids, but at this point, late in the morning, they were ready for their normal, peaceful house back.  This spot was the farthest they could get from the central game station/boy convergence zone upstairs.  Oh, and correct... I now need to go to the commissary.  There's no food left in the house.

Today the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts honored our veterans by attending the annual Memorial Day holiday ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.  Together with Scouts from across Oahu our young men placed flags and leis at each of the 13,000 headstone markers. The Punchbowl cemetery's Hawaiian name,"Puowaina," translates to "Hill of Sacrifice."  Thank you.

Zach and Nate helped fellow Boy Scout, Aaron, with his Eagle project today.  They got to sweep, rake, clear, pressure wash, tape and paint at the United Methodist Church parking lot.  The task at hand seemed somewhat daunting until 17 young men took tool to task.  The project was finished in less than four hours and the boys were enjoying some pizza while admiring their handywork before parents could arrive.  Helpful eager scouts and a well organized plan made for a very successful project.  Nicely done, Aaron!

"No, we haven't finished school yet.   We have about another month."  I've lost track of how many times I've said this in the past couple of weeks.   I'm not complaining because I do appreciate the genuine interest in our home schooling schedule.  We started later than most people due to a move, change of job position, visitors,  nice weather and well... we just didn't want to start school when everyone else was.  We we're too busy enjoying life to hunker down and get serious.  We're now working extra hard and for longer spells so we can complete our year.  We're ready to get to the business of summer fun!

I'm not really into the psychedelic thing, but this motion shot is interesting.  It's been a trippy kind of day around here, so I guess this is fitting.  What I was going for was a simple shot of the Greek yogurt I made yesterday.  I finally got it right!  And sinking yellow slur is some fresh mango from the back yard.  The whole thing looks as if it's being pulled into a black hole.  I've got to figure out how I did this!
